After begging, nagging and pleading for a piece of canvas, I finally told the girls that I’ll take them to buy one during the school holiday. Jaime hatched a plan to make something beautiful using bits and bobs that we had around the house. They approached their project with lots of determination and enthusiasm.
It has been a few weeks in the making and they are finally done! Granted the painting didn’t have a lot of recycled bits, but they did use some old cards, buttons, ribbon, gems, old bits of colored paper and flowers. The little boy is dressed in a previous birthday invitation and his shoes are from a picture in a magazine.
The girls really tried to recycle as much as they could. They where beaming with pride when it came to signing their names, and I felt so proud of them for their initiative.
As Jaime stood back admiring the painting she said to me: ” mommy, if everyone just reduced, reused and recycled, then the earth would look like this, and children would be happy with clean air and beautiful blue skies”
(Big sigh) such wisdom…and she’s only 8. We could learn a thing or two from our kids 😉
Leaving you with the lyrics Jaime is busy singing….
Reduce, Reuse Recycle, I do it everyday.
So Reduce reuse recycle, Don’t throw the earth away.
