Spring Blooms

I have been looking forward to the Spring equinox finally arriving, knowing that scientifically the cold chill in the air has to turn itself into a warmer embrace.
This year Spring has so much more meaning to me, because as with the new summer air slowly creeping in and soft blooms appearing on previously bare branches, so I too feel new beginnings and promise of regrowth within my own personal life.

I adore flowers, and the colour and beauty captured within the soft petals. Flowers hold so much meaning… Silent words but yet so descriptive. Words of life, celebration, grief, condolences, joy, love… I love how it connects people, or allows you to have an entire conversation when you have no words, from a single flower to an entire bunch or beautiful arrangement.

There are extensive lists of flowers and their meanings, but in the end I think what matters most is just enjoying their beauty and spring fragrances. Here is a list of a few popular flowers and their meanings:

VIOLET (BLUE) – Watchfulness, Faithfulness, I’ll Always Be True

VIOLET (WHITE) – Let’s Take a Chance

The most popular flowers are Roses, Chrysanthemum and Tulips. I however feel that Roses only rank first because it’s generally just more readily available and most people see it as a general good choice. I recently saw some lilac roses which was a refreshing change to the normal shades available. I love the structure of Tulips, firm and neat flowers that always looks like perfectly formed blooms.

Different flowers are also connected to star signs and even to your specific birth month, but I found these to be generic and more in relation to the colour of birthstones. None of the flowers connected to my birth month or to my star sign really hold any appeal to me. I suppose it all comes down to personal choice.

I think like most people I love Spring! I love that the temperature is just warm enough to make my skin feel glowing, but still cool enough to provide crisp cool mornings. I love that the fields are covered in wild daisy’s, and love the soft green of new summer grass starting to grow. Living close to the winelands, the additional beauty of the vineyards starting their regrowth is an added bonus.

I think I’ll take my girls to go and get a few seedlings so we can add a splash of color and play our part in celebrating Spring 🙂

Magical Mother’s Day!!

Mums are like a magical chocolatey treat
They are kind, good and very sweet.
They make you happy when you feel sad,
And help you celebrate when you are glad
And just like chocolate,
You can never get enough
Of such a sweet and perfect love!

Wishing all mums a fabulously blessed day filled with laughter, love, sticky pictures, burnt toast, kisses, hugs and all the little nothings in between 🙂

Put a little frill in your Underwear

You are what you wear… And yes, your underwear defines you! I have mentioned in a previous post that I believe in great underwear, and not for obvious reasons like your husband or boyfriend or whoever, but completely and utterly for yourself!

No matter your mood, a good set of undies can cheer you up, increase your confidence and put the spring back in your step! I have noticed that it seems the older people get, the more “age appropriate” their underwear appears to be. I see absolutely no reason why a sixty year old women should wear granny panties. I have been having a bit of a browse and find in my personal opinion that some of the quirkier undies can give tremendous support contrary to popular belief.

Some really horrid underwear type include;
Control briefs – those are the ones than seem to end almost under your boobs and sucks the life out of you, and why are they always in the most horribly pale colors?

High cut briefs – the only place where they are “higher cut” is by the legs, other than that they also almost unite with your boobs 😦

Classic briefs – absolutely nothing classic about them. Fuller than the high cut briefs, not as full as control briefs. Comes in all shades of pale vomit colors.

So narrowing it down, I would say it would do you well to stay away from anything that has “briefs” in the name, unless you buy men’s briefs of course lol.

Some well balanced ones with good coverage and firm support – in my opinion – would undoubtedly be bikini, boyshorts,or hipster cut. Now these are available in all shade of bright colors, characterized, lacy in part or entirely, filled with frills or hearts and just about anything imaginable.

I have a sister that is nine years younger than myself, that has given me some very bright and fun pieces of underwear that I absolutely love. Who said Hello Kitty panties couldn’t be supportive? I love my boyshorts and they are an absolute must with a good pair of jeans.

There is such an expectation to be serious and dress appropriate as a grown up, so why not unwind and at least keep your underwear fun. I am going to make a point of buying some funky frilly or characterized undies for my close friends when their next birthday comes up….regardless of their age. Lol, yes mom, you are up next 🙂

And I vow to wear frilly, non frilly, characterized, lacy, pink, red, black, dotted, or whatever I feel like until I’m old and grey! Life is for living, and having fun…and if I’m forced to dress all grown up by society, then at least I’ll keep my undies youthful 😉

Christmas Cheer

Christmas is such a blissful day, bringing together friends and family. I relish in the festivities and always look forward to the traditions formed over years and the joy and excitement when the girls open up their presents.

We always have Gammon, and the salty satisfaction of it is definitely something I always look forward to, gloriously glazed with applesauce or some well matured whole grain mustard. This year my dad made a fantastic broccoli salad with purple onions, baby tomatoes and roasted sunflower seeds. It was divine, and the crisp green broccoli with the ruby redness of the tomatoes and purple onions looked mouthwatering.

We always make an abundance of puddings, my absolute favorite part of the meal 🙂 my mom made a delicious trifle with crisp sweet cherries, mountains of cream and sherry soaked layers of sugar bread. We strayed away from other traditional desserts this year, so we also had some glorious chocolate mousse and a rich, creamy peppermint tart with layers of crunchy, butter rich biscuits. We also had a unbelievable moist chocolate cake engulfed in a rich chocolate sauce and walnuts. My mom made a lovely lemon meringue that had a fabulously tart taste.

Between all the glasses of ruby red wines and the aromatic flavors of food and satisfying desserts, we were all left feeling blessed and happy. My dad decorated their house with lights, our girls love it, and he specially does it for them every year. So as the sun set we went for a stroll and looked at all the lights.

After leaving my parents house, we stopped by at my husband’s brother-in-law’s house and spent some time having a glass of wine whilst the girls played with the other children. We left after twelve and the girls only got to bed at one in the morning, so we had a very full day filled with excitement and joy. It is such a blessing having so much joy and happiness and being surrounded by love. I realize that I’m very fortunate to know so many wonderful loving people.

I hope you all had a blessed and wonderful Christmas as well. xx

Info me infomercials

Infomercials give me serious bouts of indigestion and moments of disbelief. No one should ever purchase a product advertise by an overly excited, failed motivational speaker that uses loads of confusing hand gestures. With so many “useful” products to choose from, one must fight the urge to feel overwhelmed by the “quality” and “effectiveness” of […]
